Description

Member Event:
The social isolation and physical distancing of the COVID-19 pandemic have dealt a mighty blow to our mental health. Yet how we experience the pandemic’s impacts varies depending on our distinct personal circumstances. Whether we are university students or new graduates; workers - unemployed, precariously, remotely or otherwise employed; parents to school aged children; caregivers to older adults; seniors; or vulnerable minorities – our social location affects the challenges we face and our ability to cope.

Join the Peter Lougheed Leadership College for the 3rd panel of the Ruth Kelly Thought Leadership Series on Monday, November 30, to learn more about some of these experiences, strategies and resources, and share your own insights. Fight pandemic isolation - support each other!

The format of this event will include virtual visiting and networking time before and after the formal program, and an inspiring panel discussion with three community leaders who will share their expertise on COVID-19 and Mental Health:

  • Youth and COVID-19: Akanksha Bhatnagar, Communications & Public Relations with the Canadian Alliance of Students' Association, Former UASU President
  • COVID-19 and Workplace Wellness: Jordan Friesen, Principal Consultant, Mindset Strategy
  • Care-Giving and Older Adults: Dr. Jasneet Parmar, Associate Professor Dept. of Family Medicine, University of Alberta

This event will be hosted by Jenny Adams of the Adams Agency with greetings from U of A Chancellor Peggy Garritty and Principal of the Peter Lougheed Leadership College Lois Harder.

The Ruth Kelly Thought Leadership Series was created as a way to honour Ruth Kelly’s memory, and her reputation for candid, respectful commentary and debate over controversial or sensitive issues. This event’s theme of a Tea is an acknowledgment of an event Ruth Kelly hosted in 1985 - a Strawberry Tea for the volunteer Big Sister mentors in Edmonton. We encourage you to enjoy your own cup of tea during this event, perhaps in a fancy or special cup, so we can toast to the memory of Ruth Kelly.

This exciting virtual event is hosted by Peter Lougheed Leadership College, University of Alberta, in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area and United Way of Alberta Capital Region.
